My white facebook friends,

You know how to end racism? I wish I did. I won’t say I have all the answers. I do know the first step in this long over due process is to ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT’S FUCKING HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. Not just Dylan Roof, Not just the KKK, Not just your uncle from the south who wears confederate flag t-shirts, but WITHIN ALL OFWHITES. It’s why the world lost its shit at the idea of Spider-Man being Long Black Evening. It’s why you think that BET is unfair because there’s n...o white equivalent in your mind. It’s why when you go shopping for hair dye, there are 6 shelves of stuff for white hair and maybe 5 boxes of stuff for black hair. It’s why everyone knows how to say long Russian or Polish names but won’t even attempt a Nigerian name. Look at how willing you are to defend the killers of black Americans. When Tamir Rice, a 12 year old with a plastic gun was shot dead by police within 3 minutes of them arriving on scene, he was blamed for his death. When Trayvon Martin, a teenager who was stalked for several blocks by an unlicensed vigilante then killed in a confrontation, he was demonized for giving the finger in a Facebook photo. The fact that most white kids looked at the Baltimore Riots and shook their heads in disdain wondering “how destroying their own community will solve anything” should scream how we as a race are blatantly refusing to even try and empathize with a people that you claim to love. Hell, you sure love taking our culture, don’t you? How many of you listen to Rock and Roll? Pop? Rap? Jazz? It all started in the black community. So sit and think. Try and empathize for one minute what it must be like to be ‘the other.’ Next time you see a facebook post drawing attention to the importance of black lives or black excellence, don’t put your two cents in about how you’re important too. These posts aren’t for you. Next time you see a post complaining about something white people do, don’t argue with them about how they’re being racist, because they aren’t. You can’t be racist against the privileged race. Better yet, reflect on the post and try to see if you’re on a level guilty of the actions that are provoking anger. All I’m asking you to do is acknowledge that it’s real. Acknowledge that racism exists. Afterall, you can’t fight the enemy that you’re pretending you can’t see.
