Maybe some people felt I was seeking attention by pointing out that my 50th birthday had come and gone. Actually, it was a sarcastic reference and the main theme, of the post, was how to breathe new life into a laptop. A 50th birthday is, somehow, a land mark event, however, for me it had a greater significance. I am the only male Heap ( as in my family, not just a random pile of men ), in 3 generations, to have reached 50 years old without dying or having a heart attack. In ...fact, last month was the 37th anniversary of my own father's death, in 1979. A macabre accolade, I will be the first one to admit, but nevertheless, an accolade. The male Heaps usually had a major medical ( read heart) emergency around 46-47 years old. I have to admit that, although, I haven't obsessed about this fact, or maybe factoid, but it has always been at the back of my mind. As was so sagaciously stated in a song on Led Zep 3 “all that lives is born to die”. I have no illusions nor, indeed, delusions about this, after all if you don't understand that we are all in a losing struggle, you aren't facing reality. My “final notice” or that “tap on the shoulder” could be in the post I don't know nor does anyone else. Now, if you have read this far you are probably wondering about my state of mind. Don't worry I'm more mentally stable now than I've ever been ( not that that says much !). I assure you I am not in some “dark place”, far from it, after all, I've come further than any male Heap, in 3 generations, with relatively good health. If you have read this far, I thank you and now release you to continue with more pressing matters such as getting to the next level in candy crush level 50 crush !! See More |
