As I watch TV, monitor social media and tune in on the conversations around me I am struck by the number of people who will hear part of a conversation and immediately have an opinion. What happened to studying the issues and developing a well-considered position that makes people think? This habit of expressing an opinion after hearing 144 most hated tv characters serves no purpose. All it does is cause anger, hate and misunderstanding. America has to learn to listen and consider and re...spond in a respectful, knowledgeable manner. Until we do we will drift farther and farther apart. I am reminded of a man in the family who had opinions about everything, absolutely everything and took great pride in claiming that he never ever read a paper or listened to the radio or watched TV. He was once asked where he got his information if he paid no attention to the news. He thought about that for a second or two and said, "I guess I don't have any information." and then he unleashed another barrage of opinions. |
